Born on March 26, 1960 in Ankara, Ferda Kaptan had his first experience with boating at Fenerbahce RailRoads Camp at a very young age with small rental boats. On his teenage years, he continued his passion for the sea on a small motorboat his father got for him.
He went to school in Ankara. He started working as a car salesman after graduating from Ankara Bahcelievler Deneme Lisesi in 1978. With his continuous ambition on boats and sea life, he built a 2,40m speedboat, HOYRAT, in his bedroom in the apartment building where he lived with his family.
He got his amateur seaman license in 1983. After completing his military service, he moved to Didim and started to build vacation homes. He built his second boat, an 8,00m sailboat NYMPHA, entirely on his own in his house garage from keel to mast. He had the chance to practice his sailing continuously with this boat, and he achieved many successes in its class, in the following years on BAYK and Bodrum Cup tournaments.
He started his professional life as captain on daily charter boats in 1987. In 1991 he got his yacht master license, and started working on weekly charters. He also worked on international cargo ships in 2001; however, his love for sailing made him come back to sailboats and charters after only one year.
Until his retirement in 2012, he worked as captain and technical engineer in different charter companies in Bodrum and Marmaris area. At the beginning of 2013 he bought his current sailboat, a 50.5 Beneteau Cyclades, and started his own charter business.
